Closure Notice For 15 Polluting Surat Textile Companies
The Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) issued closure notices to 15 textile firms on the outskirts of Surat city which include dyeing and printing units.
“The units were said to be allegedly discharging untreated wastewater into a creek connected to River Tapi, which is important source of water for residents of Surat city,” Indian Express reported.
“GPCB officials got complaints that some textile firms on outskirts of Surat city were violating pollution norms and did not even have requisite permission to run the units,” sources were quoted as saying.
After which, GPCB officials carried out checks and found 15 textile units in Surat city outskirt areas like Laskana, Udhna, Pandesara, and Pipodara violating pollution norms.
The sources added that these factories can restart operations after setting up wastewater facilities and obtaining the requisite departmental nod.
