Global US Apparel Imports Dive 22.28% In First Seven Months

Overall US clothing imports dived sharply by 22.28 percent to US $45.74 billion in the first seven months of the current year, as against $58.85 billion in the comparable period of the earlier year.

Imports of garments from its largest source China totaled $9.12 billion between January and July 2023, compared to $12.80 billion in the first seven months of previous year.

Vietnamese clothing exports to the US touched $8.21 billion during the first seven months of 2023, which was $10.91 billion in the comparable months of previous year.

US shipments of apparels from Bangladesh reached $4.56 billion during the review period, compared to $5.69 billion between January and July of 2022.

Apparel imports from India in the period under review fell to $2.91 billion, as against $3.69 billion in the same months of the earlier year.

“Clothing imports from Indonesia slipped 27.26 percent year on year to $2.47 billion in the months between January and July 2022,” US Department of Commerce’s Office of Textile and Apparel (OTEXA) data revealed.

Cambodian garment exports slipped 32.10 percent year on year to $1.79 billion in the first seven months of current year.
