Gujarat Cotton Crop Sowing Up 8% Till Mid-July

Farmers in Gujarat have sown cotton in 2.52 million hectares till mid-July, up 8 percent, when compared with the earlier three year average.

“The cotton sowing area figure for this year is also higher when compared with the same time last year, when it stood at 2.31 million hectares,” government data informed.

The higher cotton acreage has come in the backdrop of drop in cotton prices and farmers still burdened with the cotton crop from the previous season.

The government expects that with cotton sowing continuing till end of July, cotton acreage may cross last season’s figure of 2.55 million hectares.
