ICAC Projects 2022-2023 Global Cotton Output Surging 40%

Worldwide cotton output could increase 40 percent year on year to 431,000 tons in the 2022-2023 season as against 308,000 tons in the previous season.

The latest International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC) report projects that a rebound in global cotton production is expected in 2022-2023, after a decline of over 20 percent during 2021-22.

The report anticipates that almost all major cotton producing countries will record higher Extra Long Staple (ELS) and Long Staple (LC) cotton yields in the 2022-23 season.

The report adds that cotton acreage in the US has risen massively by 43 percent over the previous season, which will overall help increase global cotton production.

“Global use of cotton in the 2021-22 season totaled around 465,000 tons, up 3 percent over the earlier season and use is anticipated to stay consistent in the 2022-23 season,” the report stated.

ICAC projects that export of cotton in the 2022-2023 season will drop to 148,000 tons, down 18 percent from 181,000 tons in the 2021-2022 season.
