‘India Size’ Garments May Become Reality In Near Future
The Indian Ministry of Textiles will soon rollout ‘India Size’, which aims to arrive at a standard Indian Size for the ready-to-wear garment industry.
Textiles Secretary Rachna Shah revealed this to PTI on the sidelines of the 6th edition of FICCI organised National Conclave on Standards & Regulations for Technical Textiles.
India Size is an initiative of the Textiles Ministry which is planning to standardise measurements and standards designed to better suit the Indian body types.
Currently garment brands selling in India use measurements from the US or the UK. Once India Size is launched, Indians will soon be able to pick clothing that would fit them better.
The then Minister for Textiles Smriti Zubin Irani had launched the India Size project in February 2019 under which a size chart specific to Indian consumer measurements would be developed.
The project was undertaken by the Ministry of Textiles, in collaboration with The Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI).
