Indian Diaspora In Laos A Living Bridge Between Two Nations: Minister

The Indian diaspora in Lao PDR has an important role to play in strengthening ties between the two countries, Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita said at a reception held here.

The reception was attended by Ambassador of India to Lao PDR Yogeshwar Sangwan, alumni of the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programme and Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), business representatives and members of the Indian community.

Addressing the gathering, Margherita described the Indian community as a “living bridge” between India and Laos, saying its continued engagement had helped foster mutual understanding, goodwill and stronger people-to-people ties.

The minister also highlighted India’s capacity-building initiatives in Lao PDR and their contribution to the country’s development. He particularly acknowledged ITEC and ICCR alumni, describing them as important pillars of India-Laos friendship whose professional and community activities have helped deepen mutual trust and civilisational links.

The interaction also brought together members of the Indian community, business leaders and programme alumni, providing an opportunity to discuss India’s growing engagement with Lao PDR.

India and Laos share longstanding historical and cultural ties, with bilateral cooperation spanning capacity building, trade, education, culture and people-to-people exchanges.

Margherita reiterated India’s commitment to further strengthening the multifaceted partnership between the two countries.
