Italian Textile Machinery Orders Fall 36% In Q4 2025

Orders for Italian textile machinery manufacturers declined sharply in the fourth quarter of 2025, reflecting a persistently challenging global market environment.
According to data released by ACIMIT, total orders in October–December 2025 dropped by 36% compared to the same period in 2024. The contraction impacted both domestic and foreign markets, with orders in Italy falling by 50% and those from overseas markets declining by 34%.
On a quarterly basis, total orders were down 25% compared to the July–September 2025 period. The overall orders index for Q4 2025 stood at 31.5 points (base year 2021=100). The domestic index was recorded at 28.4 points, while foreign markets reached 31.9 points.
For the full year 2025, order intake decreased by 22% compared to 2024. Domestic orders fell by 28%, while foreign orders declined by 21%. At the end of December 2025, the order backlog provided approximately 2.9 months of production coverage.
From a sectoral standpoint, the spinning segment showed relatively stronger momentum compared to other segments of the machinery industry.
Forecasts for the first quarter of 2026 remain cautious. While several companies anticipate stability or slight improvement over the previous quarter, the overall business climate continues to demand prudence.
Marco Salvadè, President of ACIMIT, noted that despite the difficult environment, export data for the first ten months of 2025 offered encouraging signals. In particular, exports to India surged by 46.7%, making it the leading destination market for Italian textile machinery.
“Indian growth confirms that Italian technology continues to be highly valued in high-potential markets,” Salvadè said. He emphasized that innovation, quality and a strong presence in strategic regions will be key drivers for the sector’s recovery.
Despite the current downturn in orders, the industry remains focused on strengthening its competitive positioning in global markets as it navigates a gradual recovery phase.
