Itema Lays First Stone Of New Manufacturing Site In Ponte Nossa

Itema Group has officially laid the First Stone for its new manufacturing site in Ponte Nossa, marking the beginning of a major redevelopment of the historic Seriana Valley industrial area. The site, once home to Cotonificio Cantoni and unused since 2004, will now be transformed into a world-class production hub for weaving machinery and solutions.

Itema acquired the area in July 2022 with a dual objective: to counteract the abandonment of mountain areas by breathing new life into a site that once symbolized the region’s industrial excellence, and to build a sustainable, innovation-driven production hub that strengthens the group’s global competitiveness.

Construction begins with Step 1, the creation of a new manufacturing plant dedicated to Itema’s core weaving business. Completion is expected in 2027. The new plant will be designed with cutting-edge principles of logistic efficiency, sustainability and advanced manufacturing technologies.

Ugo Ghilardi, CEO of Itema Group, stated: “In 2022 we decided to begin a journey to position Itema for the turbulent changes in the global textile industry while reinforcing our brand as an ambassador of ‘Made in Italy’. This new site will enhance both our production and innovation capabilities, complementing our historic presence in Colzate and strengthening our role in the Seriana Valley.”

Maurizio Radici, President of Itema Group’s Board of Directors, added: “We are proud to continue our textile journey in the Seriana Valley, the cradle of our history. This new hub reflects our vision where innovation, sustainability and tradition converge—an investment in the future of our territory and the global weaving industry.”

The broader project will also involve future expansions for Lamiflex SpA, further demonstrating Itema Group’s commitment to remain a solid industrial partner for Bergamo, Italy, and weaving mills worldwide.
