John Furner To Succeed Doug McMillon As CEO of Walmart Inc. From February 2026

Walmart Inc. has announced that its Board of Directors has elected John Furner, 51, as the next President and Chief Executive Officer of Walmart Inc., effective February 1, 2026. Furner, who currently leads Walmart U.S., has also joined the company’s Board of Directors with immediate effect.

He will succeed Doug McMillon, 59, who will retire as CEO on January 31, 2026, after more than a decade in the role. McMillon will remain on the Board until the next annual shareholders’ meeting and continue as an advisor to Furner through FY2027 to support a smooth transition.

Greg Penner, Chairman of Walmart Inc., said Furner’s three-decade career at the company — from an hourly associate to senior leadership roles across all operating segments — makes him the ideal choice to lead Walmart’s next phase of growth. Penner praised McMillon for steering Walmart through a transformative period marked by digital acceleration, strengthened supply chains and sustained financial performance.

McMillon expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to lead the company and voiced strong confidence in Furner’s ability to guide Walmart through an AI-driven era of retail innovation.

Furner, who has served as President and CEO of Walmart U.S. since 2019, said he was honoured by the trust placed in him and committed to advancing Walmart’s customer focus, associate development and community impact.

Walmart will announce Furner’s successor as CEO of Walmart U.S. before the end of FY2026.
