Kolon Industries Earns International EPD Certificates

Kolon Industries, a Korean chemical and textile company, has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first Korean nonwoven maker to obtain international EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) certificates for their nonwoven textile products ‘Finon’ and ‘Finon ECO.’ This accomplishment enhances their export competence in the polyester spunbond product market.

EPD quantifies and communicates a product’s environmental impact across its entire lifecycle, from raw materials to disposal. The certificates were issued by ‘EPD International AB’ in Sweden and ‘EPD Norge’ in Norway, reflecting Kolon Industries’ dedication to environmental transparency and sustainability.

‘Finon’ is a polyester spunbond nonwoven used in various sectors, including automotive, flooring, filtration, landscape, and construction. ‘Finon ECO’ is an eco-friendly version, reducing Global Warming Potential (GWP) by 43% through the use of post-consumer recycled polyester from plastic bottles.

Having previously obtained domestic EPD certificates, Kolon Industries now holds both domestic and international certifications, strengthening its competitive position.

Young-baek Choi, head of the spunbond business, emphasized the importance of EPD in showcasing their commitment to sustainability and meeting customer sustainability demands.
