Lenzing Takes Majority Stake In TreeToTextile

Lenzing Group has acquired a controlling majority stake in Swedish innovation company TreeToTextile AB, marking a strategic milestone in the development and industrialisation of next-generation, sustainable cellulosic fibres. The transaction was executed through the issuance of new shares.
With this step, Lenzing strengthens its position as a leading global provider of sustainable, wood-based specialty fibres and significantly expands its innovation pipeline with a scalable, resource-efficient and patent-protected technology platform.
TreeToTextile represents a major technological advancement in cellulosic fibre production, following the development of viscose in the early 20th century and Lenzing’s own Lyocell technology in the 1990s. The process offers an improved sustainability profile, attractive cost advantages and broad applicability across textile and nonwoven markets, aligning with Lenzing’s premiumisation strategy and long-term growth ambitions.
Commenting on the development, Georg Kasperkovitz, COO of Lenzing Group, said: “TreeToTextile is among the world’s most advanced next-generation fibre technologies and represents one of the most promising developments currently available. Since our initial investment in 2025, the close collaboration between the TreeToTextile team and Lenzing’s fibre experts has delivered significant technological progress. We are fully committed to scaling up and commercialising this technology.”
He added that H&M Group, Inter IKEA Group and Stora Enso will continue to support the venture as minority shareholders, contributing valuable market and consumer insights, while LSCS Invest remains a committed long-term shareholder.
Dr. Roxana Barbieru, CEO of TreeToTextile, said, “Innovation at industrial scale requires time, expertise and strong partnerships. Lenzing Group’s increased ownership is a clear endorsement of our technology and our ambition to become a major player in the global fibre market.”
The majority acquisition enables faster scaling of the technology. Lenzing plans to significantly increase production output at the existing demonstration plant in Nymölla, Sweden, while simultaneously preparing for the establishment of the first large-scale industrial facility. The closer integration is also expected to deliver operational synergies and accelerate the path to commercialisation.
