Mayer & Cie. Expands Braiding Portfolio With 48-Carrier Machines

Mayer & Cie. has expanded its braiding portfolio with the successful development and delivery of two 48-carrier machines: the MR‑11, shipped in late 2024, and the MR‑15, delivered in July 2025. Both machines mark a significant milestone for the company’s braiding division, which has operated from Mayer & Cie.’s Albstadt headquarters since 2019.
“With the MR‑15 now complete, we’ve fully achieved our goal of strengthening in-house development for braiding machines,” said Patrick Moser, Head of the Braiding Division.
Operating as a “company within a company,” the braiding unit shares Mayer & Cie.’s production processes with circular knitting machines, while addressing very different markets. China remains the largest market, followed by the U.S. and Italy.
Since relocating development from the U.S. to Albstadt, Mayer & Cie. has introduced several innovations, including servo drives for deck control, redesigned soundproof booths, and the SpeedBooster technology unveiled at ITMA 2023. The latest 48-carrier machines enable production of larger hose diameters (50–150 mm), longer running times and higher efficiency.
Looking ahead, Moser sees strong growth potential: “We are receiving more inquiries for interlinked systems and in-line processes. Expanding our portfolio to include other machine types is a realistic next step.”
