OCA Appoints Sucharu Mahajan Uppal As Country Manager, India
The Organic Cotton Accelerator (OCA) has appointed Sucharu Mahajan Uppal as its new Country Manager for India. With nearly three decades of experience in the global textile and apparel sector, Uppal will lead OCA’s efforts to scale impact across India’s organic cotton ecosystem.
Bart Vollaard, Executive Director of OCA, welcomed her appointment, saying, “Sucharu brings extensive expertise in textiles and sustainability, along with a passion for creating meaningful change. India is critical to the future of organic cotton, and under her leadership, we aim to strengthen partnerships, support more farmers, and accelerate progress toward our mission.”
Uppal said, “Joining OCA is a privilege. I am inspired by its mission to drive systemic change in the organic cotton sector, supporting farmers, advancing sustainability and scaling impact from field to fashion. I look forward to shaping a bold and inclusive path for organic cotton in India that is grounded in local realities.”
She brings over 28 years of leadership experience, most recently as Joint President at Birla Cellulose – Grasim Pulp & Fibre, where she built global brand partnerships, advanced circular fibre innovation, and led cross-border teams. Uppal has also held senior roles at April Sourcing, Impulse International, and East West Inc., overseeing multi-million-dollar businesses in apparel, footwear and accessories.
