OEKO-TEX Issues More Than 50,000 Certifications & Labels

The international OEKO-TEX association has achieved significant growth, underscoring the importance of collaboration in driving sustainable practices. Over the past year, OEKO-TEX issued more than 50,000 certificates and labels—an increase of 22% from the previous year—reflecting its expanding influence among the over 35,000 textile and leather companies it serves.

A notable milestone was the certification of over 40,000 chemical products with the OEKO-TEX ECO PASSPORT. This achievement highlights the industry’s enhanced commitment to cleaner, safer production practices. ECO PASSPORT certified chemicals adhere to global regulations, including the REACH Directive, the ECHA Candidate List, and the US CPSIA, and are recognized by the ZDHC for MRSL conformity.

The OEKO-TEX ORGANIC COTTON certification, launched in 2023, saw its first finished products in the market by January 2024. The certification now includes stricter requirements, such as a reduced GMO limit from 10% to 5%, tightening purity and quality standards.

In response to evolving regulatory challenges, OEKO-TEX has adapted its certifications to ensure compliance with new requirements. To address the US CERCLA ban on PFAS/PFC substances, OEKO-TEX has enacted a general ban on these chemicals. Additionally, the new OEKO-TEX RESPONSIBLE BUSINESS certification supports companies in meeting due diligence obligations under the European Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) and other supply chain regulations.
