Pakistan’s Textile Exports Drop By US$ 272.6 Million In February

Pakistan’s textile exports fell sharply by US$ 272.6 million in February compared to January, as high production costs driven by expensive electricity continue to pressure the sector.

According to data from the Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers Association (PHMA), textile exports stood at US$ 1.41 billion in February, down from US$ 1.68 billion in January.

Knitwear exports recorded the steepest decline, falling by US$ 102.7 million. Exports of ready-made garments dropped by US$ 67.8 million, while bedwear exports decreased by US$ 39 million. Cotton cloth exports fell by US$ 16.3 million, and towel exports declined by US$ 4.6 million.

Exporters have raised concerns that high electricity costs are undermining competitiveness, making it harder to secure international orders. They cautioned that if affordable electricity and raw materials were made available, Pakistan’s textile exports could surpass US$ 30 billion annually.
