For more than six decades, Pioneer Elastic has specialised in manufacturing these critical components, supplying premium elastics to leading global apparel brands from production facilities spread across Asia.

Its Indian manufacturing facility at Brandix India Apparel City represents an important chapter in that global journey.

“We have been in the business for more than 60 years and today operate four production facilities across Asia, serving customers worldwide,” says Annalyn Oliveros Gacusan, Business Manager, Pioneer Elastic.

The company’s manufacturing footprint includes facilities in China, Thailand, India and Vietnam, with a combined production capacity of nearly 55 million metres of elastics every month. The Visakhapatnam unit alone contributes around 10 to 12 million metres per month, catering to both Brandix and export-oriented apparel manufacturers across Asia.

More Than Just Waistbands
Elastic manufacturing is far more specialised than many people realise. Pioneer produces a wide range of woven, knitted and jacquard elastics designed for diverse applications including lingerie, intimate apparel, athleisure, sportswear, casualwear and even non-apparel products such as bags and footwear.

Its jacquard elastics, capable of incorporating customised brand logos and lettering, have become increasingly popular among premium apparel brands seeking to combine functionality with brand identity.

The company also supplies performance elastics for internationally recognised brands across multiple product categories, where durability, comfort and precision are critical.

Why India Became A Strategic Manufacturing Base
Pioneer Elastic established its Indian operations in 2010, choosing Brandix India Apparel City as its manufacturing base. The decision was influenced by the company’s long-standing collaboration with Brandix as well as the opportunity to become part of an integrated apparel manufacturing ecosystem.

“Our Indian facility contributes around 10 to 12 million metres of elastics every month, supporting both Brandix and customers outside the industrial park,” Annalyn explains.

Operating within Brandix India Apparel City allows the company to work closely with apparel manufacturers while benefiting from export-oriented infrastructure and a collaborative industrial environment.

The facility exports its products to Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Cambodia and several other global apparel manufacturing destinations, where the elastics ultimately become part of garments supplied to leading international fashion brands.

Balancing Global Sourcing With Localisation
Like many specialised textile manufacturers, Pioneer sources premium raw materials through a carefully developed global supplier network. Historically, much of its specialised yarn has been procured from China, reflecting long-established technical partnerships developed over decades.

However, the company is steadily increasing localisation as India’s textile supply chain continues to evolve. “We are moving towards greater localisation in India,” says Annalyn. “Wherever quality and availability meet our requirements, we are increasing our sourcing from local suppliers.”

To further strengthen its domestic capabilities, Pioneer is expanding its yarn-dyeing development programme in India. This initiative is expected to reduce dependence on overseas product development while significantly improving responsiveness to customer requirements. “With our new yarn-dyeing development programme in India, we expect to reduce lead times and respond faster to customer requirements,” she adds.

For global apparel brands operating in increasingly shorter fashion cycles, even small reductions in lead time can translate into significant competitive advantages.

Manufacturing Round The Clock
Pioneer Elastic’s Visakhapatnam facility operates continuously through three production shifts supported by a workforce of more than 540 employees.

The plant houses around 250 weaving machines, including specialised jacquard weaving systems, alongside knitting and dyeing operations capable of producing a broad portfolio of premium elastic products.

Operators are recruited from surrounding villages and trained extensively before joining production lines, while experienced technical personnel are sourced from nearby industrial centres to support specialised manufacturing operations.

This combination of local workforce development and technical expertise has enabled the company to steadily expand its capabilities while maintaining consistent product quality.
