Piyush Goyal Presents MATEXIL Awards In Various Categories

Manmade and Technical Textiles Export Promotion Council (MATEXIL) formerly SRTEPC presented various awards in various categories for 2022-23

Textiles Minister Piyush Goyal presented the awards to the winners and said that MATEXIL has done tremendous work and helped Indian textile exports reach more than 150 countries in the last 70 years.

Rakesh Mehra received the lifetime achievement award, while Neha Jhunjunwala received an award in the women entrepreneur’s category.

“Textile sector has this never say die spirit. From concerns about where there will be any future for it, textile has emerged stronger even from challenges like Covid,” Goyal said.

“Even when we are seeing two wars and rebels troubling sea routes, textile sector has refused to slow down,” the textiles Minister added.

Minister further said that the technical textiles sector in India is trying to shape the imagination of the world and also appreciated the contribution of private players to the success of Bharat Tex.

He expressed confidence that MATEXIL will help textile sector in doubling its output to US $250 billion.

“Everybody should support and value Indian manufacturers, because if he gets hurt, in the long run, the industry will suffer massively,” Goyal informed the audience

He however, expressed disappointment with the low expenditure in R&D by private companies which makes government sole contributor to R&D efforts and urged private sector to step up R&D efforts.

The Minister also urged private sector to step up the efforts in skill development and said that government cannot match the skill development that can be done by private sector.
