Primark Raises Hourly Pay For Retail Staff Across Great Britain

Primark has announced an increase in hourly wages for its retail colleagues across Great Britain, benefiting more than 27,000 employees.

Effective April 1, the retailer will raise the average hourly pay for retail assistants to a minimum of £13.00 across England, Scotland and Wales, and £13.71 per hour in London. The latest revision means that, over the past three years, employees have seen their hourly wages increase by more than 15% on average.

Kari Rodgers, UK Retail Director at Primark, said the move recognises the growing demands of the retail environment and the critical role employees play in supporting customers and local communities.

“As retail becomes a more demanding environment, our colleagues play an increasingly important role in supporting our customers and the local communities we’re part of across the country. By investing in increasing colleague pay, we hope this goes some way towards recognising their hard work, commitment and the value they bring every day,” Rodgers said.

Alongside the pay increase, employees will continue to receive a 15% year-round staff discount and access to a range of benefits. These include enhanced family benefits for retail and depot colleagues, such as improved maternity, paternity, adoption and surrogacy payments.

Primark currently employs more than 30,000 people in the UK across its retail operations and head office. The pay rise forms part of the company’s broader investment strategy in the UK, which includes opening new stores and upgrading existing locations to strengthen its presence on the high street.
