Sri Lanka’s Garment Exports Up 5.2% In June

Sri Lanka’s garment exports climbed 5.2% year-on-year in June 2025 to US$ 439.39 million, up from US$ 417.71 million a year earlier, according to the Joint Apparel Association Forum (JAAF).
The growth was powered by sharp gains in the UK and EU markets, which helped offset declines elsewhere. Exports to the UK surged 20.4% to US$ 67.33 million, while shipments to the EU (excluding the UK) jumped 23.1% to US$ 142.92 million. By contrast, exports to the United States fell 5.7% to US$ 164.39 million, and sales to other destinations dropped 9.3% to US$ 64.75 million.
For the first half of 2025, Sri Lanka’s apparel exports grew 8.95% to US$ 2.46 billion, compared to US$ 2.26 billion in the same period last year. The US remained the top buyer, with imports rising 4.1% to US$ 910.92 million, while the EU market expanded 16.7% to US$ 769.89 million. Exports to other destinations also advanced 8.9% to US$ 413.60 million, and the UK posted a 6.45% increase to US$ 366.53 million.
JAAF said the results highlight positive momentum in key European markets and reflect the industry’s resilience amid global headwinds. The association credited the performance to market diversification efforts and sustained consumer confidence in Sri Lankan apparel manufacturing.
