Sutlej Deploys Digital Product Passports To Power Sustainability

Sutlej Textiles and Industries Limited has strengthened its sustainability framework by implementing advanced Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) systems and introducing Digital Product Passports (DPPs) for select yarn and fabric categories, reinforcing its shift toward data-driven environmental decision-making.

The Mumbai-based textile major has developed Digital Product Passports that consolidate key product information including material composition, manufacturing location, environmental footprint and sustainability attributes into a transparent and accessible format. The initiative enhances product traceability and enables verified sustainability disclosures for customers and stakeholders seeking credible environmental data.

Commenting on the development, Ashish Kumar, CEO and Whole-time Director, said, “Sustainability is a strategic enabler at Sutlej, essential for long-term competitiveness, resilience, and value creation. We are embedding a robust, data-led framework to move beyond intent, transforming sustainability into a driver of innovation and enduring value.

GreenStitch is a key partner in this journey, delivering credible methodologies and intuitive digital tools. Through AI-powered LCA, GHG accounting and Digital Product Passports, we now have clear visibility into product-level environmental footprints.

This empowers us to make smarter decisions, target high-impact reductions, increase stakeholder transparency and accelerate our shift to truly sustainable manufacturing.”

With the rollout, Sutlej has established a centralised and standardised sustainability data system supporting structured product-level LCAs and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) accounting. Phase I covers selected yarn and fabric categories, alongside monthly environmental impact tracking. The insights generated will guide product improvements and footprint reduction initiatives.

By digitising data collection, validation and impact calculation, the company has enhanced reporting accuracy, streamlined compliance processes and strengthened readiness for buyer disclosures, audits and evolving regulatory requirements. The product-level data also supports buyer-specific carbon disclosures and substantiates sustainability claims.

Sutlej partnered with sustainability intelligence platform GreenStitch to develop and operationalise the digital framework.

Narendra Makwana, Co-founder and CEO of GreenStitch, said, “Sutlej is among the front-runners in operationalising sustainability at scale, with a clear focus on translating data into business-relevant action. Their adoption of product-level LCA and structured sustainability measurement shows strong leadership in moving from compliance to value creation. We are excited to work with a partner that is embedding sustainability into core manufacturing decisions and setting a benchmark for the industry.”

The initiative builds on Sutlej’s broader sustainability priorities, including renewable energy adoption, circular material integration, regulatory compliance and climate-focused manufacturing practices. Going forward, the company plans to deepen supplier engagement and leverage LCA insights to support decarbonisation strategies and product redesign.
