Tamil Nadu Emerges As India’s Top Textile Exporter With US$ 8 Bn In FY25

Tamil Nadu has secured the top position in India’s textile exports, recording shipments worth US$ 7.99 billion in FY2024–25, reflecting a strong growth of over 29% compared to the past four years.
The state’s exports have risen steadily from US$ 6.19 billion in FY2020–21, highlighting its growing dominance in the country’s textile trade. With this performance, Tamil Nadu now accounts for 21.84% of India’s total textile exports, which stood at US$ 36.61 billion during the fiscal.
Chief Minister M. K. Stalin highlighted that the state has outpaced traditional leaders such as Gujarat and Maharashtra to emerge as the top exporter. Gujarat ranked second with exports of US$ 5.65 billion, while Maharashtra followed at US$ 3.83 billion.
According to official data, the growth has been driven by sustained policy support, strategic initiatives, and coordinated efforts across multiple government departments, which have strengthened the overall textile ecosystem in the state. Tamil Nadu’s well-established infrastructure, skilled workforce, and strong presence across the textile value chain from spinning and weaving to garments, have further contributed to its export performance.
The data has been sourced from the National Import-Export Record for Yearly Analysis of Trade, a centralised platform that provides comprehensive and real-time insights into India’s foreign trade.
Officials noted that Tamil Nadu’s consistent growth reflects its ability to adapt to global demand trends while enhancing competitiveness in international markets. The state continues to play a crucial role in driving India’s textile exports, supported by its diversified product base and strong industrial ecosystem.
