Textile Exchange Unveils 2030 Strategy – Doubling Down On Systems Change

Textile Exchange has announced a bold strategic shift as it aligns its operations and focus to meet the scale of transformation required for the fashion and textile industry to achieve critical climate and nature goals by 2030. The initiative, titled “Strategy to 2030: Doubling Down on Systems Change”, follows an extensive internal review launched in 2023 when Claire Bergkamp took over as CEO.
Despite the organization’s growth including over 90,000 certified sites and more than 1,800 stakeholders attending its annual conference Textile Exchange warns that the industry remains off-track to achieve the 45% greenhouse gas emissions reduction from raw material production needed to stay aligned with the Paris Agreement.
To accelerate progress, Textile Exchange is focusing on connecting brands and retailers more directly with producers at the source. Its revamped strategy is built on three pillars: deeper engagement and partnerships, enhanced tools for climate and nature impact, and the development of a next-generation standards system called Materials Matter. This system will provide outcome-based assurance, integrating climate and nature metrics and strengthening producer-brand connections.
“Our focus now is clarity and action,” said Claire Bergkamp. “We’re strengthening the connection between both ends of the supply system and ensuring producers have a stronger voice. The next five years must be about collective effort, rooted in partnership and shared responsibility.”
The organization also unveiled a new mission and vision to support this evolution:
- Mission: Transform how we produce, choose and reuse materials to benefit the people and places at the source.
- Vision: A world where materials have lasting value, leading to thriving communities and flourishing landscapes.
Chief Strategy Officer Ashley Gill emphasized the urgency of the shift: “The transformation we seek toward climate resilience, biodiversity and sustainable material production requires recognizing the interconnectedness of these issues. We are focused on driving systemic change and creating the conditions that enable it.”
With this strategic evolution, Textile Exchange is aiming not just to meet its 2030 targets, but to lead long-term, structural change across the global textile industry
