Tunisia Enhances Textile Testing Capabilities With New Labs
Tunisia’s textile industry is bolstering its global competitiveness with the Centre Technique du Textile (CETTEX) opening new state-of-the-art laboratories in Tunis. These facilities, operational since May 2024, offer advanced chemical, physical, and toxicological testing and are ISO 9000 certified and TUNAC accredited. The expansion, funded by a €2 million investment from the Tunisian government, GIZ, and PTB, aims to support sustainable practices and meet growing demands from European markets.
CETTEX, collaborating with Centre Testing International Ltd (CTI) from China, is enhancing its services with digital platforms and competitive pricing to attract both local and international clients. CEO Mohsen Moussaoui emphasized the goal to expand Tunisia’s presence in the global market.
Mixed Results for 2024 Textile Exports
Despite these advancements, Tunisia’s textile and clothing exports faced mixed results in early 2024. Clothing exports dropped significantly, with declines in key markets like France, Italy, and Germany, while Belgium saw a slight increase in value. In contrast, textile exports rose by 2.51% in value, despite a decrease in weight, driven by strong performances in the “Household Linen” category and growth in markets such as France and Spain.
These developments reflect Tunisia’s efforts to enhance its textile sector’s capabilities and adapt to shifting global market dynamics.
