UKFT Releases Guide To Help UK Fashion & Textile Businesses Enter India

The UK Fashion & Textile Association (UKFT) has launched a new Guide to the Indian Market for Fashion and Textiles, providing UK businesses with practical insights into one of the world’s fastest-growing fashion and textile markets. The guide is available exclusively to UKFT members.

Published following the implementation of the UK-India Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), the guide aims to help UK fashion and textile companies understand the opportunities and challenges of doing business in India.

India is projected to become a US$350 billion fashion and textile market by 2030, presenting significant growth potential for UK brands, manufacturers and exporters. While the new trade agreement is expected to strengthen bilateral trade, UKFT notes that long-term success in India will require more than tariff advantages. Companies must also understand the country’s market dynamics, consumer preferences, distribution channels and business culture.

Developed with contributions from market specialists and companies already operating in India, the guide offers practical information on market entry strategies and business operations. Key topics covered include the impact of the UK-India trade agreement, market opportunities and challenges, routes to market, manufacturing in India, major retail and wholesale players, pricing strategies, consumer expectations, customs procedures, logistics, labelling requirements, and important trade shows and industry contacts.

The publication also highlights the unique characteristics of India’s diverse and highly fragmented fashion and textile sector, where international brands compete alongside a strong domestic manufacturing base and established local players.

Paul Alger MBE, International Business Director at UKFT, said: “The UK-India trade agreement marks the beginning of a new trading chapter between our two countries. While the agreement creates new opportunities, businesses will need to invest time in understanding this complex market and developing the right partnerships. This guide is designed as a practical starting point for UK companies considering India as part of their international growth strategy.”

The guide forms part of UKFT’s broader international trade support programme, which includes market intelligence, export advice, trade missions and business introductions for member companies.
