Unspun Secures Funding For 3D Sustainable Weaving Technology

California and USA based textile and garment innovator Unspun has raised US $14 million in a first round of funding. The funding has been raised to particularly support Vega, its 3D sustainable weaving technology.

The funding led by Lowercarbon Capital will help expanding Unspun’s production facilities for the 3D technology.

According to Unspun, Vega technology can weave a pair of pants in less than 10 minutes directly from yarns, thereby reducing time for finishing as well as transportation costs and importantly, emissions.

“Vega allows products to be created upon request, minimising waste and giving brands further control over their inventory,” the company said in a press release.

With the funding, Unspun will forge additional partnerships later, while it is also preparing to establish its first micro-factory where it will demonstrate its production technology.

In a release, Walden Lam, the co-founder of Unspun, said: “This is the first major investment made by Lowercarbon in the fashion space, underscoring our potential to create sea-change across an entire industry.

“We are excited to partner with the most ambitious apparel brands and designers to solve the existential crisis facing the industry, and Vega is an important step on this journey.”
