US Textile & Garment Imports Inch Up 1.5% In November

US textile and apparel imports increased 1.5 percent in November 2023 and amounted to 6.9 billion SME compared to 6.8 billion SME in the same month of 2022.

As per data of the Office of Textiles and Apparel of the US Department of Commerce (OTEXA), imports from Mexico recorded the highest hike at 79.8 percent year on year to touch 443.9 million SME.

In the same month, imports of textiles and clothing also rose 9.5 percent from China and amounted to 2.62 billion SME as against 2.4 billion SME in November 2022.

Those from Vietnam also rose 9 percent to 445.3 million SME in November 2023, while those from India also grew 3.9 percent and reached 713.2 million SME

However, shipments from Pakistan’s exports fell 6 percent over November 2022 to 282.4 million SME in the reporting month.

However, in the first eleven months of 2023, US textile and clothing imports dropped 13.8 percent year over year to 85.8 billion square meter equivalent (SME).

The increase in November imports can be attributed to the holiday season in December, which accounts for a majority of retail sales among all months.
