Vietnam, Austria Seek Stronger Ties In Skilled Labour And Investment

Vietnam is looking to deepen cooperation with Austria in skilled labour exchange and investment, Vietnamese Ambassador to Austria Vu Le Thai Hoang said during a working session with Rene Tritscher, head of the Austrian Business Agency (ABA).

Ambassador Hoang highlighted Vietnam’s favourable investment climate, inviting Austrian companies to explore opportunities in technology, finance, green transition and digital transformation. He also introduced Vietnam as a reliable partner for skilled labour cooperation, noting that Vietnamese workers are known for their professionalism, discipline and adaptability.

Highlighting a successful partnership, Hoang cited the collaboration between Vietnam and IMC Krems University of Applied Sciences in Lower Austria, which offers 150 full scholarships for Vietnamese nursing students. Graduates benefit from high-quality education, internships and guaranteed employment in Austria’s healthcare sector.

Despite these achievements, the ambassador noted that the number of Vietnamese workers in Austria remains limited compared to other EU countries. He expressed hope for an early bilateral labour cooperation agreement to facilitate workforce exchange and vocational training in nursing, IT, electronics, hospitality, and seasonal work.

For his part, Tritscher emphasized that Austria views Vietnam as an increasingly significant partner and a strategic gateway to Southeast Asia, aligning with Austria’s strengths in precision engineering, railways, high technology, finance, biomedical technology, pharmaceuticals and tourism.

He described Vietnam as a high-potential source of skilled labour, particularly as Austria seeks to diversify its labour markets beyond Southeast Europe, the Philippines, Indonesia and Brazil.

Tritscher congratulated IMC Krems on its successful nursing training initiative and voiced support for expanding similar models across Austria. He also pledged close cooperation with the Vietnamese Embassy to advance joint initiatives, including the annual technology forum, the Vietnam Business and Investment Forum, and the Vietnam–Austria Skilled Labour and Vocational Training Forum.

The meeting marked a key step toward broadening Vietnam–Austria economic and human resource partnerships, with both sides expressing optimism for sustained collaboration in the years ahead.
