Vietnam-Made Textiles & Apparels Shipped To 104 Countries

This year, Vietnam-made textile and garments were exported to a total of 104 countries, despite a decline in export turnover.

This was informed by Vũ Đức Giang, Chairman of Việt Nam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS) and reported by Vietnam News Agency.

“This demonstrates efforts of the exporters to diversify markets amid drop in consumption in major export markets,” Giang said at a VITAS conference.

Giang estimated textile and apparel exports to reach US $40.3 billion this year, which is a drop of 9.2 percent compared to the previous year.

The US remained the top export destination with $11 billion in the first nine months of 2023, followed by Japan with $3 billion, South Korea $2.4 billion, the EU $2.9 billion, Canada $850 million and China $830 million.

To reach 104 countries, Vietnamese clothing exporters expanded their markets to non-traditional markets like countries in Africa, Russia and India.

“The industry has witnessed expansion in orders in the last quarter of this year as consumption will increase due to the upcoming Christmas holidays,” he added.

He expected the recovery trend to continue in 2024 although uncertainty remains in the global economy.

The VITAS Chairman said the export industry gets competitive advantage from free trade agreements with major economies like the US, Japan, China, EU, the UK and Russia.
