Vietnam, UNIDO Launch US$ 72 Million Green Industry Program

Vietnam and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization have signed a new Country Programme for Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development for 2025–2028, marking a major step toward accelerating the country’s green industrial transition.

Signed in Hanoi on April 20, the US$ 72 million initiative aims to modernise Vietnam’s manufacturing sector through a focus on sustainability, competitiveness and policy strengthening.

The programme is built on three key pillars: advancing low-carbon and environmentally sustainable manufacturing, strengthening the resilience and efficiency of value chains, and improving industrial policies and institutional frameworks. It combines policy advisory support with technical assistance and investment mobilisation to drive large-scale impact.

The initiative builds on a long-standing partnership between Vietnam and UNIDO, which has delivered more than 170 projects since 1978, particularly in areas such as SME development, energy efficiency, and clean production.

Under the new framework, the focus will expand to high-potential sectors including agricultural processing, with targeted interventions in rice and tea value chains to boost value addition, sustainability and rural livelihoods.

The programme is expected to play a key role in supporting Vietnam’s transition to a high-value, circular economy, while strengthening its position in global sustainable manufacturing.
