Vietnamese Imports Of Cotton, Yarn & Fabrics Up In April

In April, Vietnamese imports of cotton, yarn and fabrics recorded an increase, which indicates a revival of the textile and garment sector in the country.

“Vietnam imported 132,900 tons of cotton in April 2024, a growth of 7 percent over the same month of previous year,” statistics of Vietnamese Customs informed.

The major countries from which Vietnam imported cotton were the US with around 53,100 tons and accounted for 40 percent of all cotton imports in April.

Cotton imports from Brazil totaled about 39,800 tons and accounted for 30 percent of overall cotton imports and from Australia they reached 11,400 tons and accounted for 8.6 percent of total imports.

In the reporting month, the SE Asian country imported around 104,700 tons of yarn, a significant hike of 24.5 percent over a year ago month.

China was the major import supplier of yarn to Vietnam in April from where imports of yarn touched 71,790 tons and accounted for 68.50 percent of overall yarn imports.

Import value of greige fabrics and textiles amounted to US $1.34 billion in April, an increase of 16.6 percent year-on-year.

Here too, China was the biggest supplier and accounted for 70 percent of total greige fabrics and textiles import value.
