Welspun And NSDC Launch Textile Skilling Drive For Women

Welspun Living Limited (WLL), a global leader in home textiles and part of the Welspun World conglomerate, has partnered with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) to launch a large-scale skilling and employment initiative focused on operator-level roles in the textile sector. The collaboration aims to bridge skill gaps, enhance employability, and promote inclusive growth, particularly for women from underrepresented regions such as the North-East and Uttarakhand.

The initiative was jointly launched by Jayant Chaudhary, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, and Mizoram Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma, in the presence of senior government leaders from Mizoram, Nagaland, and the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.

The pilot program will train and certify 1,000 candidates—at least 50% of whom will be women—through a curriculum comprising 120 hours of classroom sessions and 210 hours of on-the-job training at Welspun’s advanced facilities in Anjar and Vapi, Gujarat. Trainees will learn key technical skills in machine handling, production, quality control, safety, and soft skills, and will receive joint certification from NSDC and Welspun upon successful completion. All trainees will be assured employment within Welspun’s operations.

The program covers training, travel, and stipends at a cost of Rs 42,500 per trainee, totaling an investment of Rs 4.25 crore.

Dipali Goenka, MD & CEO of Welspun Living Limited, emphasized, “Women are powerful catalysts in shaping the future of India’s textile industry. This partnership reflects our commitment to inclusive and sustainable growth, unlocking pathways to economic independence and generational impact.”

Rajesh Jain, CHRO, added, “Skill development is about creating opportunities. Through this collaboration, we’re building a future-ready textile workforce while contributing to economic growth.”

This initiative aligns with Welspun’s LITE philosophy; Learning, Innovation, Trust/Talent, and Endurance and builds on the momentum of its 38th Founders Day celebration, themed ‘The Unstoppable W,’ to promote inclusive progress in the textile industry.
