1,600 Textile & Garment Factories Shut Shop In Pakistan
Around 1,600 Pakistani textile and garment factories have shutdown over the past 16 months and the Pakistani Commerce Ministry is contemplating a strategy to reopen these closed factories
“A framework is in the process of finalisation which will provide regional competitive energy pricing, working capital support, speedy refund payments and enhanced market access,” media reports quoted Caretaker Commerce Minister Gohar Ejaz as saying.
“The policy announcement is scheduled for this month, to unlock the full production capacity potential within the country,” the minister added.
The minister stated that the shutdown extends across all stages like ginning, spinning, weaving, processing and garment production, while there are many other factories operating at lower production capacities.
There are 8,100 registered textile and garment factories in Pakistan, out of which there are around 2,000 textile and apparel exporters.
