Ahlstrom Innovates Fluoro-Free Solutions For Sustainable Air Filtration
Ahlstrom is spearheading the shift towards more sustainable, fluoro-free solutions in fibre-based applications. The company expands its innovative technologies into various industrial air filtration applications, supporting filter manufacturers in creating products with enduring filtration performance without the use of fluorochemicals.
Ahlstrom’s new fluoro-free filtration materials are particularly suited for gas turbine air intake, air pollution control and HVAC systems. These materials boast water-repellent properties, enhancing filter durability and stability in wet conditions. In global filtration markets, hydrophobic properties are crucial for maintaining peak filtration performance in challenging environments.
For instance, in air pollution control, hydrophobic materials reduce energy consumption by limiting pressure drop increases in humid conditions. In gas turbine applications, water repellency prevents liquid water and dissolved salts from entering filters, safeguarding turbines against corrosion.
Tamara Quatrano, Vice President of R&D and Product Development, Filtration at Ahlstrom, emphasizes, “We continuously innovate safe and sustainable solutions. Launching our fluoro-free portfolio for industrial air filtration marks a significant step towards enabling customers to transition away from fluorochemistries. We’re paving the way for a cleaner, safer and more sustainable filtration future by offering alternative solutions that meet stringent performance requirements.”
