Better Cotton Extends Agreement With Israel Cotton Board
Better Cotton has extended its standard recognition agreement with its strategic partner in Israel, the Israel Cotton Production and Marketing Board (ICB), for another year. The ICB, a farmer-owned cooperative, represents cotton growers across the country.
Since 2020, ICB’s Israel Cotton Production Standard System (ICPSS) has been recognised as equivalent to the Better Cotton Standard System (BCSS), allowing Israeli farmers to market their cotton internationally as ‘Better Cotton.’
In the 2022-23 cotton season, 80 farmers certified under ICPSS produced over 17,300 metric tonnes of Better Cotton, accounting for 99% of Israel’s total cotton production.
Despite its small scale, Israel’s cotton industry is globally renowned for advancements in research and development, introducing innovative seed and plant varieties, technology and enhanced crop quality and yields.
The ICPSS is set to align with Better Cotton’s updated Principles & Criteria (P&C) v.3.0, with full implementation planned for the 2025/26 season. Better Cotton requires regular reassessment of partner standards to ensure they evolve in line with its objectives, continually supporting farmers worldwide.
