Freudenberg Sets 2045 Net-Zero Target, Cuts CO₂ 29% Since 2020

Freudenberg Performance Materials, a leading maker of technical textiles, has published its first standalone sustainability report, marking a key step in enhancing environmental accountability. Until now, sustainability disclosures were included only in the Freudenberg Group’s consolidated report.
The company, with a 175-year legacy, has set a goal of achieving CO₂ neutrality across all sites (Scope 1 & 2) by 2045. In 2024, it cut emissions by 3% year-on-year, bringing levels down 29% versus the 2020 baseline, while improving energy efficiency by 10% despite higher output.
About 30% of its purchased electricity came from renewables, powering 25 production lines, while the overall share of green energy rose to 13.5%. A major gas-powered asset was replaced with wet-scrubber technology, eliminating roughly 4,000 tonnes of CO₂.
The company is also preparing for the upcoming EU Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) by rolling out software to track the Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) of its offerings.
