ITAMMA Focuses On Innovation & Sustainability In Packaging At 82nd AGM

The Indian Textile Accessories and Machinery Manufacturers’ Association (ITAMMA) held its 82nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the ITME Centre, Mumbai, focusing on the theme ‘Packaging Aspects for the Textile Engineering Industry.’ The event underscored the growing importance of packaging in ensuring product safety, sustainability and export competitiveness in the digital age.

In his opening address, N. D. Mhatre, Director General (Tech), ITAMMA, highlighted the challenges faced by member companies due to inadequate packaging practices. Emphasizing the integration of electronics and automation in modern textile machinery, he noted the need for robust packaging solutions during logistics. The keynote session featured Dr. Babu Rao Guduri, Additional Director and Professor, Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP), Mumbai, who presented insights on sustainable packaging trends and their relevance to global exports.

Omprakash Mantry, President, ITAMMA, in his welcome speech, stated that India’s textile machinery industry, comprising around 3,000 manufacturing units, is projected to reach a market size of USD 2.02 billion by 2033. He emphasized that eco-friendly packaging materials and smart packaging innovations will play a crucial role in supporting India’s vision of becoming a textile powerhouse by 2047, targeting $600 billion in exports and a $1.8 trillion domestic market.

Guest Speaker Avinash Mayekar, Managing Director, Suvin Expo LLP, delivered an engaging presentation on “Expectations from Indian Textile Engineering Industry to be prepared for Viksit Bharat 2047.” He outlined a strategic roadmap emphasizing import substitution, technology collaborations, OEM development, and the creation of textile engineering parks to strengthen India’s self-reliance and global competitiveness.
During the AGM, ITAMMA felicitated Dr. Seema Srivastava, Executive Director, India ITME Society, for earning her Doctorate in Management Studies. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks by Vishal Masand, Hon. Treasurer (2025–26), ITAMMA.
