Traders Cheer Six New Textile Export Facilitation Centers

Textile traders across the country have welcomed the Indian government’s decision to establish six new Textile Export Facilitation Centers (TEFCs), calling it a major boost for exporters and small businesses.
The new centers will be set up in Karur (Tamil Nadu), Ichalkaranji (Maharashtra), Jaipur (Rajasthan), Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh), Ludhiana (Punjab) and Surat (Gujarat), strengthening export support infrastructure across key textile hubs.
Ashok Jirawala, President of the Federation of Gujarat Weavers Association, described the move as a commendable step. He noted that industry stakeholders had long demanded an export facilitation center in Surat to provide a single-window system for exporters. Surat produces nearly one crore metres of fabric daily, yet its export performance remains below that of global competitors such as China.
Jirawala added that the new center would help Surat’s traders better capitalise on recent trade engagements with the United States and the European Union, potentially expanding market access.
Dikvash Gupta, a Surat-based exporter, termed the announcement historic, stating that the six TEFCs are expected to strengthen India’s export ecosystem. He emphasised that small and medium enterprises, which form the backbone of the textile industry, stand to benefit significantly from streamlined procedures and enhanced institutional support.
