Ivy Decarb Signs Strategic MoU With BGMEA To Accelerate Textile Decarbonization

Spain-based decarbonization solutions provider Ivy Decarb has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) to drive industrial decarbonization and energy efficiency initiatives across Bangladesh’s textile and garment sector.

The agreement was formalized on May 6, 2026, during a meeting between José Manuel Caballero Ballesteros, Managing Director of Ivy Decarb, and Vidiya Amrit Khan, Vice President of BGMEA.

Under the partnership, both organizations will work together to support sustainable transformation in Bangladesh’s Ready-Made Garment (RMG) industry, which remains the backbone of the country’s export economy. BGMEA represents nearly 4,000 registered garment factories and has played a pivotal role in shaping Bangladesh into a global apparel manufacturing hub since its establishment in 1983.

Bangladesh has also emerged as a global leader in sustainable manufacturing, with more than 220 LEED-certified garment factories — the highest number in the world.

As part of the collaboration, Ivy Decarb and BGMEA will establish a Joint Committee that will function as a technical platform focused on methodology validation, modernization of production systems, technology access and industry-wide alignment on sustainability measurement standards.

The initiative will also facilitate the introduction of the Ivy Decarb Marketplace to BGMEA members, including vertically integrated manufacturers, while connecting factories with advanced machinery suppliers and financial institutions to support energy-efficient upgrades and decarbonization investments.

The partnership aims to help Bangladeshi manufacturers strengthen compliance with increasingly stringent ESG requirements set by global apparel brands and buyers.

Key industry stakeholders supporting the initiative include Shah Rayeed Chowdhury, Director at BGMEA; Md. Masud Rana, Bangladesh Director at Ivy Decarb; Sheikh H M Mustafiz, Director at BGMEA; and Wasim Zakariah, Chairman of the Sustainability Reporting Standing Committee.
