India, Eurasian Economic Union Accelerate Free Trade Agreement Talks

Negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between India and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) have gained momentum, with Russian President Vladimir Putin confirming that discussions have accelerated as both sides seek to strengthen economic cooperation.
The EAEU comprising Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan, has been expanding its global trade partnerships, having recently signed agreements with Mongolia, the UAE and Indonesia.
Talks with India, initiated in 2025, are now progressing at a faster pace following the agreement on a negotiation framework last year.
The renewed push aligns with India’s broader trade integration strategy and its focus on strengthening engagement with the EAEU during its BRICS chairmanship.
Putin also noted growing international interest in closer economic partnerships with the Eurasian bloc, underlining the EAEU’s expanding role in global trade.
