TAI South Gujarat Unit Organises Seminar On Next-Gen Textile Industry
The Textile Association (India) (TAI), South Gujarat unit, organised a seminar on Next-Gen Textile Industry at The Palace Hall, Surat. The seminar focused on the subject ‘In the Context of Man-Made Textiles: Sustainability Challenges and Growth Avenues with AI-ML and Government Schemes’.
The event brought together textile industrialists, entrepreneurs, academicians, researchers, students, consultants and professionals from across South Gujarat. Discussions focused on sustainability, artificial intelligence, digital transformation, smart technologies and government initiatives shaping the future of the Indian textile industry.
The seminar was led by TAI South Gujarat Unit President Niraj Modi, Chairman Minesh Adhvaryu, Convenor Virendra Jariwala, Vice President Krishnakant Kharwar, Hon. Secretary Pawan Panwala, Hon. Treasurer Minesh Patwa and Advisors Dr P. A. Khatwani and Ketan Jariwala.
The technical programme featured three sessions by experts from the textile and industrial sectors.
The first session, “Challenges of Sustainability for Man-Made Textiles,” was delivered by Avinash Mayekar, Managing Director, SUVIN. The session highlighted the growing importance of environmental compliance, ESG reporting, circular economy practices, carbon footprint reduction, waste management, resource optimisation and sustainable manufacturing.
The second session, “Enhancing MSME Competitiveness Through ZED and Lean Schemes,” was conducted by Hiren Pandya, Technical Expert – Lean Manufacturing, ZED and ESG, and Empanelled Consultant, MSME, Government of India. The session focused on the Zero Defect Zero Effect (ZED) Certification Scheme and Lean Manufacturing Competitiveness Scheme, with emphasis on improving productivity, reducing wastage, enhancing quality and lowering operational costs.
A short presentation on various government schemes was also made by the Surat office of the State Pollution Control Board (SPCB).
The final session, “Making Textile Industries Globally Competitive with AI and Smart Technologies,” was delivered by Siddharth Kamat, Industry Engagement Lead – MSMEs, AI Centre of Excellence (AI CoE), Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of Gujarat.
Kamat discussed the role of artificial intelligence, machine learning, automation, data analytics, smart manufacturing and Industry 4.0 in transforming the textile industry. The session explored applications in production planning, quality control, predictive maintenance, inventory management, energy optimisation and supply chain efficiency.
Interactive question-and-answer sessions followed the technical presentations, allowing industry professionals, students and participants to discuss practical challenges, emerging technologies, sustainability, career opportunities and skill development.
