Novonesis Launches Denibrite Platform For Lower-Impact Denim Bleaching

Novonesis has launched DeniBrite, a consolidated biobleaching platform for denim that brings together its enzymatic bleaching solutions to help formulators and laundries create a range of denim finishes while addressing growing requirements around process performance, chemical management and sustainability.
The launch comes as denim manufacturers face increasing pressure to reduce reliance on conventional bleaching chemistries while continuing to deliver bright contrasts, vintage fades and other finishes demanded by brands and consumers.
According to the Environmental Impact Measurement (EIM) in the Denim Laundry Industry Progress & Insights 2025 report, chemical management remains a key area for improvement in denim processing, with 27% of finishing processes classified as having a high chemical impact. Novonesis said DeniBrite is designed to support customers in addressing these challenges through lower-impact bleaching alternatives.
The platform combines DeniBrite Cold T, developed to produce bright, contemporary looks through low-temperature bleaching, and DeniBrite™ Vintage, designed to create authentic vintage finishes and grey-cast effects. The two solutions provide laundries and formulators with flexibility to meet different fashion and brand requirements.
“For decades, denim bleaching was about achieving the right look. Today, it is also about proving how that look was made,” said Hans Ole Klingenberg, Vice President, Planetary Health Biosolutions, Novonesis.
“Brands, formulators and laundries increasingly need confidence that their bleaching systems can meet evolving expectations around chemical compliance and sustainability. With DeniBrite, we’re combining proven enzyme technology with verified sustainability documentation to help customers create authentic denim finishes while preparing for what’s next,” he added.
Novonesis, a bluesign System Partner, said DeniBrite products are bluepass certified, indicating that they are produced through processes meeting bluesign Criteria. The portfolio is also available in formulations compliant with ZDHC Level 3 requirements.
A screening-level Life Cycle Assessment of DeniBrite Cold T indicated approximately 40% lower global warming potential and 28% lower water consumption compared with conventional sodium hypochlorite bleaching under the assessed conditions.
The DeniBrite platform is available globally through Novonesis and its channel partners. The company said the solutions are intended to help denim formulators and laundries achieve desired fashion effects while supporting evolving expectations around chemical compliance and environmental performance.
