Inthing Expands Global Footprint With Integrated Manufacturing And Supply-Chain Capabilities

Homegrown fashion and apparel company Inthing is expanding into global markets as it enters the next phase of its growth, leveraging more than six decades of experience in textile manufacturing, supply chain and distribution.

Founded in 1958, Inthing has evolved from a fabric trading and textile manufacturing business into an integrated fashion and apparel enterprise. The company is now looking to use its manufacturing capabilities, supply-chain network and distribution expertise to establish a wider international footprint.

The expansion comes as the third generation of the family business takes a more active role in the company. Akshat Bhutra, son of Manmohan Bhutra, is driving the next phase with a focus on manufacturing consolidation, operational efficiency, scalability and preparing the business for opportunities beyond India.

A key part of Inthing’s scale-up strategy has been the consolidation of its production network into a hub-and-spoke structure. Three Master Units operate as central manufacturing hubs, supported by nine smaller manufacturing units. The model is aimed at improving coordination and creating a more integrated production ecosystem.

The company currently employs around 1,500 people and has an annual production capacity of approximately 18 lakh garments. Its manufacturing infrastructure includes three Master Units spread across around 1.5 lakh sq. ft., connected to nine smaller units through the hub-and-spoke model.

Inthing’s manufacturing capabilities are supported by an established domestic distribution network comprising more than 200 wholesalers and 10,000 retailers, reaching around 300 cities across 25 states and six Union Territories.

The company said its international expansion is being built on its existing manufacturing and supply-chain strengths rather than being pursued solely as an export initiative. Its objective is to leverage the scale and experience developed in the domestic market to establish a sustainable international business.

“For us, going global is a natural progression of what has been built over the last 68 years. We have spent decades strengthening our understanding of manufacturing, products and distribution, and the focus now is to take these capabilities to a much larger market. As the next generation, my responsibility is to preserve the strengths that have brought us this far while building the systems, scale and outlook required for Inthing to compete globally,” said Akshat Bhutra, Director of Inthing.

Inthing’s journey began in 1958, when B.K. Maheshwari and Ramesh Arora started the business with fabric trading. Over the years, the company moved towards backward integration, developing capabilities spanning yarn, fabric and garment manufacturing.

The next phase of the business was led by Manmohan Bhutra and Amit Arora, who explored opportunities in fabric exports and garment retail before developing a consumer-facing fashion brand.

As the company completes 68 years, Inthing is positioning its manufacturing infrastructure, supply-chain capabilities and domestic distribution network as the foundation for its next phase of growth in international markets.
