Patricia Urquiola Expands Design Collaboration At Heimtextil 2027

Patricia Urquiola will return to Heimtextil 2027 with an expanded interpretation of the event’s trend theme, presenting three sculptural elements in the Trend Space. The installation will bring the Heimtextil Trends 27/28, curated by Alcova, to life under the theme Home-Maxxing – The Performance of Everyday Living.

The collaboration marks the third consecutive year of Urquiola’s involvement with Heimtextil. For the 2027 edition, the architect and designer will build on her existing Bambi sculpture, adding two new pieces developed specifically for the exhibition.

The three-part installation represents the latest stage in a concept that has evolved across successive editions of Heimtextil. In 2025, Bambi was presented digitally on a monitor. In 2026, the figure was transformed into a physical object as part of the “among-all” installation. For 2027, Urquiola will expand the concept into a family of three hybrid creatures, exploring new forms and material applications.

“For Heimtextil 2027, I return with a family of three hybrid creatures: the third chapter of a research that keeps evolving, one edition at a time. Together, the pieces trace a journey  from digital imagery to physical presence and open a new chapter in material experimentation, where textile becomes a living, evolving form,” said Patricia Urquiola.

The installation connects closely with Alcova’s “Hyper Presence” trend direction, which places physical presence, materiality and human connection at the centre of the design narrative. Urquiola’s work explores the idea that objects in the home do not always need to serve a functional or technological purpose, but can create an impact through material, touch and comfort.

The sculptures also reflect the other trend directions, Staged Competence and Inside, Out. A key example is Ohoskin, the material used for Bambi. Its metallic finish gives it a technical and futuristic appearance, while the material itself is produced from by-products of Sicilian oranges. This contrast between an industrial visual language and a natural material origin is central to the concept.

The collaboration between Alcova and Urquiola brings two established Heimtextil design partnerships together within the Trend Space for the first time. Their combined approach explores how materials, technology, craftsmanship and human experience can influence the way textiles and interiors are perceived.

Visitors can experience the Heimtextil Trends 27/28 and Patricia Urquiola’s design elements in the Trend Space from 12 to 15 January 2027 in Frankfurt.
