SITRA, TTRI Sign Pact To Advance Textile Research And Sustainable Technologies

The South India Textile Research Association (SITRA) and the Taiwan Textile Research Institute (TTRI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen research and technical cooperation in speciality man-made fibres, medical textiles and sustainable textile processing.

The agreement was signed during the Taipei Innovative Textile Application Show (TITAS) 2026, held in Taiwan from October 6 to 8. G. Raj Kumar, Vice Chairman of SITRA, and Chiu Sheng-fu, Vice President of TTRI, signed the MoU on behalf of their respective institutions. Industry leaders from the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) attended the ceremony.

The partnership combines SITRA’s capabilities in textile research, testing, consultancy, training and industry support with TTRI’s expertise in advanced textile technologies and applied research. It aims to translate shared knowledge into practical, scalable solutions for the industry.

“This MoU marks the beginning of a forward-looking partnership between two institutions committed to advancing textile technology, strengthening industrial competitiveness, and promoting a sustainable and innovation-driven textile sector,” said Raj Kumar.

The agreement covers capacity building, collaborative research and technology development, and testing and standards. Proposed activities include training programmes, expert lectures, workshops, researcher interactions, industrial visits and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

Technical cooperation will explore sustainable processing, functional and technical textiles, advanced fibres, resource-efficient manufacturing, recycling, circularity, digitalisation and automation. Collaboration in testing and standards will focus on quality assurance, laboratory practices, method validation, proficiency comparisons and alignment with international requirements.

Emphasising the need for tangible outcomes, Raj Kumar added: “Its real value will be reflected in the projects we undertake, the expertise we exchange, the people we train and the industrial impact we create together.”

The partnership seeks to strengthen textile research ties between India and Taiwan while supporting the development of advanced products and more resource-efficient manufacturing processes.
