Uzbek Textile Association Delegation Visits BGMEA To Explore Trade Opportunities
A delegation representing the Uzbekistan Textile and Garment Industry Association (UZTEXTILEPROM) visited the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) on August 1 to discuss potential avenues for collaboration in the apparel and textile sector.
The meeting, held at BGMEA headquarters, was attended by prominent members of both organizations, including Mukhammadsaidov Bakhtiyor, Head of the Department of Textile, Garment and Knitwear Industry at the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan, Sherzod Akbarov, Head of Department at UZTEXTILEPROM and Mehdi Mahbub, Adviser at UZTEXTILEPROM.
During the discussion, the UZTEXTILEPROM delegation presented an overview of Uzbekistan’s thriving textile and garment sector, emphasizing its competitive advantages, particularly its strategic proximity and easy access to Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries.
In response, BGMEA Vice President Shahidullah Azim highlighted Bangladesh’s commitment to product diversification, particularly in the field of high-value garments made from man-made fibres (MMF). He also revealed Bangladesh’s growing interest in exploring new markets like CIS, which boasts a substantial $55-billion apparel market.
Both parties recognized the potential for mutual trade benefits through collaboration and cooperation. To further explore these opportunities, UZTEXTILEPROM extended an invitation to a business delegation from BGMEA to visit Uzbekistan and explore potential joint ventures.
