Sri Lanka Hosting First Ever Textile & Apparel Road Show In UK
The Joint Apparel Association Forum (JAAF) will host the ‘Sourced Sri Lanka – Textile and Apparel Road show’ in London in June 2024.
The road show will be held jointly with the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB), Sri Lanka Apparel Sourcing Association (SLASA) with support from the Sri Lanka High Commission in UK.
The event will be held under the theme ‘Sourced Sri Lanka Building Everlasting Relationships One Garment a Time’.
The show will see participation from around fifty exhibitors and is expected to attract around a thousand foreign buyers.
The show is being held with an aim to forge new connections and strengthen existing relationships with UK buyers.
According to EDB, the road show is crucial given challenges, such as declining demand in key markets of the US, UK and Europe
This event is Sri Lanka’s first standalone export promotion event in over twenty years, with plans to expand to other countries.
The road show is also being organised to expand clothing exports to US $ 1 billion from $627 billion in 2023.
It may be noted here that Sri Lankan garment exports to UK had reached $785 million in 2019, but had started declining since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020
