All Kenyan Police & Military Uniforms To Be Produced Locally

Kenyan President William Ruto has announced that henceforth all uniforms of the police and armed forces will be produced in Kenya to promote domestic manufacturing.

“Currently, the east African country imports 90 percent of its textiles and garment requirements from various countries like India, China, Pakistan, Turkey, etc,” Deutsche Welle stated.

Caroline Karugu, an investment and finance expert is of the opinion that there is no need to import fabrics as Kenya can produce them.

Industry experts point out that it will be a challenge to meet the directive from the President considering that most of the textiles are imported.

“We see opportunities for growth and development with this new directive,” Phyllis Wakaiga of the Kenya Association of Manufacturers said.

Incidentally, international exhibition ITME Africa & ME 2023, a textile machinery exhibition will be held from November 30–Dec 2, 2023, at Nairobi, Kenya.
