Amcor Unveils Decarbonization Roadmap To Slash Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Amcor, a global leader in responsible packaging solutions, has announced its Decarbonization Roadmap aimed at reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. This roadmap aligns with the latest climate science to limit global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius and is validated by the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

The roadmap centres on five key areas:

  • Product Redesign: Innovating packaging designs to reduce carbon footprints.
  • Recycled Content: Boosting the use of recycled materials in packaging solutions.
  • Renewable Electricity: Transitioning operations to renewable energy sources.
  • Supply Chain Collaboration: Partnering with suppliers to meet high sustainability standards.
  • Operational Efficiency: Enhancing water and waste management, energy efficiency and upgrading equipment.

Peter Konieczny, Amcor’s interim CEO, stated, “Sustainability drives us at Amcor. This roadmap will accelerate progress and help us and our partners achieve more impactful and lasting results.”

Amcor has been tracking and reporting environmental impacts since 2008. In fiscal year 2023, the company achieved 100% renewable electricity at 22 sites and reduced absolute GHG emissions by 10.2% from FY22, with a 244% increase in renewable electricity use compared to the previous year.
