Indorama Ventures Celebrates Waste Hero Programme Success At 2024 Excellence Event

Indorama Ventures, in collaboration with SEAMEO SEPS and Yunus Thailand, announced the achievements of the Waste Hero education programme at the ‘2024 Waste Hero Excellence Announcement’ in Bangkok. Launched in 2023, the programme promotes sustainable waste management across South-East Asia, engaging over 1,700 educators and reaching countries including Indonesia, the Philippines, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia and Myanmar.

The key highlights of the programme include a significant social return on investment (SROI) in Indonesia and the Philippines, where every dollar spent generated nearly five times its value. The Waste Hero School Competition saw participation from 53 schools, with five awarded for exceptional integration of Waste Hero materials and significant waste reduction. The winning schools are Bhutan’s Dorokha Lower Secondary School, Indonesia’s SDN Hegarmanah Jatinangor Sumedang, Malaysia’s La Salle Sentul Secondary School, the Philippines’ San Luis National High School, and Thailand’s Ban Kammeknongnangfha School.

Suchitra Lohia of Indorama Ventures praised the programme’s impact and partner support, while Duriya Amatavivat from SEAMEO SEPS highlighted the programme’s role in advancing waste management education. Dr Phichet Phophakdee from Thailand’s Ministry of Education and Callum Mackenzie of Yunus Thailand commended the initiative for fostering sustainability and empowering students to become Waste Heroes.
