Apparel Imports By United States Decreases 22.04% In 2023

Overall apparel imports by the United States dropped 22.04 percent to US $77.84 billion in 2023 compared to $99.86 billion in 2022.

Data of the US Department of Commerce’s Office of Textiles and Apparel (Otexa) informed that clothing imports from China declined 10.83 percent year on year to $16.32 billion in the previous year.

However, garment imports from Bangladesh in the reporting period slipped higher at 25 percent from a year ago period to $7.29 billion.

Among top apparel import sources, those from Vietnam decreased 22.79 percent in 2023, from India 21.42 percent, from Indonesia 25.19 percent and Cambodia 23.58 percent, all falling over 2022.

Import share of China by value stood at 20.96 percent followed by Vietnam with 18.21 percent and Bangladesh stood at third position with 9.37 percent.
